Teen on moped struck by oncoming car in Quebec City; alcohol a factor

A 16-year-old girl was seriously injured after her scooter was struck by an oncoming vehicle late Friday night in Quebec City.

A 911 call around 11:13 p.m. alerted emergency services to the collision on Louis-XIV Boulevard, near Vaubert Street, in the Beauport borough.

“When police arrived, the scooter rider, a 16-year-old girl, was conscious but had serious injuries. She was quickly transported to a hospital, where her condition was stable,” said Sergeant Sandra Dion, spokesperson for the Quebec City Police Department (SPVQ).

“The driver of the car was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, causing bodily injury,” she noted.

According to preliminary findings from the police investigation, the scooter, on which the teenager was riding, was travelling on Louis-XIV Boulevard when it was struck by a car travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene.

An investigator and a forensic team from the SPVQ were dispatched to the scene to determine the exact circumstances of the collision.

The driver of the vehicle is expected to face charges.
