Snow much for that: forecast snow turns to freezing rain

A mix of rain and snow hits Montreal.

After predicting that some 20 centimetres of snow would fall on the Montreal area Sunday through Monday, Environment Canada warns to watch out for freezing rain.

The weather agency issued a special weather statement around 3 p.m. Sunday revising its expected snowfall to between two and four centimetres and warning of ice pellets.

A “short period of freezing rain is likely this evening” before precipitations change back to rain late, it said.

About 2 to 4 millimetres of ice accumulation is expected.

Environment Canada warns that roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery. Local utility outages are also possible.

The temperature is expected to stay steady around -1 C and 0 C.
