A 78-year-old man from Rimouski is dead after a collision on Highway 20 in Sainte-Luce, in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region on Tuesday morning. At about 7:45 a.m., emergency crews were called to Highway 20 near kilometre 635 for a collision involving a tractor-trailer and a car. According to preliminary information gathered by the Quebec provincial police (SQ), the car had stopped on the right shoulder before attempting a U-turn. At that point, it was struck by a heavy truck travelling in the same direction and was unable to avoid the crash. The car driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The truck driver did not suffer any serious injuries. A collision reconstructionist will conduct a full analysis as part of the investigation into the exact causes and circumstances of the crash.
