Quebec to present economic update on Nov. 25

The Quebec government will provide its fall economic update on Nov. 25.

Finance Minister Eric Girard will take stock of Quebec’s economic and financial situation, exactly eight months after the presentation of the 2025-2026 budget.

The CAQ government was forecasting a deficit of $13.6 billion, or 2.2 per cent of GDP, for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, while maintaining its goal of achieving a balanced budget within five years.

The March budget was presented as the saga of U.S. tariffs was beginning. The fall economic update should provide an opportunity to assess the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Quebec’s finances.

The economic statement will also have to take into account the new federal budget from Mark Carney’s government.

When Carney presented his budget, Girard didn’t hide his disappointment. In particular, he felt that the new infrastructure investments were insufficient.
