Quebec teen driver facing $1,400 fine for excessive speeding

A 19-year-old driver is facing an almost $1,400 fine for excessive speeding in Coteau-du-Lac, in southwestern Quebec, for driving almost 70 km/h over the speed limit.

On Sunday, patrollers from the Vaudreuil-Soulange West MRC station stopped a car travelling on the Monseigneur-Langlois Bridge shortly after 3 a.m.

According to Quebec provincial police, the teen from Rivière-Beaudette, Que., was driving 138 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. He was fined $1,386 and received 14 demerit points. His driver’s licence was also suspended for seven days.

Police are reminding drivers that speed is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads.
