Quebec provincial police (SQ) is seeking witnesses to a major collision between a vehicle and a heavy truck on Highway 50 in the early morning of Dec. 10. A 28-year-old man died in the head-on crash on a stretch of Highway 50 in the Laurentians with only one lane in each direction and no median. At the time, the SQ said weather and tough road conditions could have caused the crash. Police put out a release Friday asking for any witnesses to come forward to help determine the causes and circumstances around the collision. The crash prompted calls for safety improvements on the highway. Between 2015 and October 2024, Quebec’s Ministry of Transport recorded 29 fatal accidents and 33 crashes causing serious injuries along the highway, between the municipalities of L’Ange-Gardien and Mirabel where there are contiguous lanes.
