Possible arson in Rivière-des-Prairies

An SUV was destroyed in a suspected arson in Rivière-des-Prairies, but the fire caused no damage to the home.

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after a parked vehicle was set on fire in the Rivière-des-Prairies neighbourhood.

The SPVM said they were called around 9:10 p.m. Saturday about a vehicle on fire on Ulric-Gravel Street, near François-Huot Street.

The vehicle was parked in the driveway of a private residence. According to police, when officers arrived, the Montreal fire department (SIM) was already working to bring the fire under control.

The SUV was a total loss, but the home did not sustain any damage.

Police said they did not find any incendiary objects but believe the fire was criminal in nature.

The vehicle was towed for further analysis, and investigators will be reviewing security footage.

No arrests have been made, and no injuries have been reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
