Ontario man arrested with nearly 30 pounds of suspected cocaine near Quebec-Maine border

An Ontario man is facing multiple charges after the RCMP say they arrested a suspect with approximately 30 pounds of suspected cocaine near the Quebec border with the United States.

The Mounties say the suspect was arrested after fleeing while being stopped at the Coburn Gore border crossing in Maine at around 3 p.m. Thursday. He was then found several hours later by police in Saint-Augustin-de-Woburn, in Quebec’s Eastern Townships. The drugs were allegedly found in his vehicle.

The RCMP’s Beauce Integrated Border Enforcement Team and the Sûreté du Québec worked together on the case after receiving a tip from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency.

Jequar Patrick Campbell-Chambers, 27, of Hamilton, Ont. is facing four charges, including possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and exporting cocaine, and was scheduled to appear at the Lac-Mégantic courthouse by videoconference, police said.
