Montreal police (SPVM) have arrested a suspect in Mexico in connection with a 2025 unsolved murder. The SPVM said in a news release that Gabriel Lavoie, 22, was in Playa del Carmen and the subject of a murder arrest warrant. He was taken into custody on Thursday. He is the third suspect arrested in the March 14, 2025 killing of a 34-year-old man in the Hochelaga neighbourhood near the Francis-Bouillon Arena. The man was found injured in the lower body with a sharp object on the corner of Ontario and Saint-Germain streets. He was rushed to the hospital and died later. It was the fifth homicide in 2025. Dave Lambert-Chouinard and Valdano Saint-Hillien were arrested shortly after the homicide. They are both facing manslaughter charges. “The arrest of the third suspect in Mexico was made possible thanks to the excellent cooperation of Mexican authorities, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and Interpol,” said SPVM Major Crimes head Mélanie Dupont. ”It also demonstrates the determination and tenacity of our investigators. No matter where a suspect hides after committing a crime, we will spare no effort to find them and ensure they are brought to justice.”
