Man in his 50s killed after side-by-side ATV collides with tree off dirt road

A man in his 50s died Friday evening following a crash near Matchi-Manitou, in the Vallée-de-l’Or region of Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

Around 8:30 p.m., emergency services were called to a dirt road near Route 117.

The accident involved a side-by-side vehicle.

“The driver, a man in his 50s, was transported to a hospital where, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead,” said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Frédéric Deshaies. “For reasons that remain unclear, the driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle before colliding with a tree.”

An SQ collision investigator went to the scene to analyze the area and better understand the causes and circumstances that led to the crash.
