A man has been charged in connection with the dismantling of a clandestine drug lab in Griffintown on Wednesday. Kastus Shlyk, 35, appeared in court by videoconference on Thursday to face one count of possession of chemicals for use in production of an illicit substance. He was remanded into custody. Police also say a 33-year-old woman arrested during the operation on Wednesday is an alleged accomplice. She was released without charges pending the outcome of the investigation. The pair were arrested after Montreal police busted a drug lab at a condo tower in Griffintown, near the corner of Peel and Smith streets, that was suspected of producing carfentanil, a drug more powerful than fentanyl that can be lethal at very low doses. Two floors of the condo tower, as well as an underground parking garage, were evacuated on Wednesday during the operation. Several Montreal police officers were at the scene again on Thursday as the dismantling is expected to take a couple of more days. Police said the following streets remain closed: Shannon Street, south of Wellington Street and Smith Street east of Peel Street. The Montreal Fire Department, Urgences-santé, and Health Canada assisted Montreal police with the investigation.
