A search for a 36-year-old woman in the Mount Tzouhalem and Maple Bay area on Wednesday was unsuccessful, according to the RCMP. Authorities had asked the public to avoid nearby trails and recreational areas as officers looked for the woman, whose name has not been released. On Wednesday evening, North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP confirmed the search had concluded, and said people may “resume normal use” of the area. “At this time, there is no current safety risk to the public related to this investigation,” the detachment said in a news release. “While the active search has ended, investigators are asking the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the woman.” The woman is described as white, 5’4” tall, and approximately 180 lbs. She was last seen wearing black pants and a black or blue hoodie. No further details have been shared about why the RCMP is trying to find her. Wednesday’s search drew a large police presence to the Maple Bay neighbourhood, but authorities said there was no “shelter in place” asked of residents. The Cowichan Valley School District also confirmed Maple Bay Elementary continued with its regular school day. The RCMP asked anyone who spots the woman or has information on her whereabouts to contact the North Cowichan/Duncan detachment at 250-748-5522.
