A major police operation took place on Saturday in Longueuil, on the South Shore of Montreal, to apprehend a man in his 20s, who was potentially armed, and who is alleged to have assaulted another person. The area was cordoned off for much of the day before being reopened in the early evening. According to Jacqueline Pierre, a spokesperson for the Longueuil police service (SPAL), officers were called to the scene shortly before 10:00 am on Curé Poirier West Boulevard, between Duvernay and Joliette streets. “We received information suggesting that the individual might be in possession of a firearm, so the area was evacuated, along with the surrounding buildings,” Pierre said. The SPAL reportedly then made contact with the individual before arresting him. He is expected to be interviewed by investigators in the coming hours after being examined at a hospital. “There are victims who have not yet been interviewed,” added Pierre, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing. Searches were still underway in the early evening Saturday at the scene of the incident to determine whether the individual was in fact armed at the time of the incident.
