Provincial police confirmed that a major crash on Highway 11 in Severn Township Saturday morning was fatal. In a 6:08 a.m. social media post, the OPP initially described the incident as a ‘serious collision’ between Grayshott Road and Goldstein Road/South Sparrow Lake Road. An OPP public information advisor (PIA) told CTV News the crash happened at around 4 a.m. and involved a pickup truck and car. The OPP later specified that the call included reports of a wrong way driver. Police say one driver was pronounced dead on scene while the other was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Highway 11 was closed in both directions between Grayshott Road and Goldstein Road/South Sparrow Lake Road as the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team investigated the scene. The area has since reopened. Police say they are not identifying the deceased until their next of kin is notified.
