The Montreal arson squad is investigating a fire that broke out at 3:16 a.m. Saturday in the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough, severely damaging a kosher restaurant. Nearly 80 fire trucks responded to the two-alarm blaze on Décarie Blvd. between Plamondon Avenue and Vezina Street, according to the Montreal fire department. The restaurant, Nöam, is part of a two-storey multi-commercial building that also houses a garage, which was also damaged in the fire. The Montreal fire department said it was unclear whether other small businesses operated there. No injuries were reported. Montreal police (SPVM) said evidence found at the scene suggests the fire was deliberately set, which has prompted a criminal investigation to determine why the restaurant was targeted. This is a developing story. More to come.
