Prince Albert residents may be wondering about the giant tent that went up at the South Hill Mall this week. Europa Super Circus is hitting Prince Albert this August long weekend. Circus ringmaster and aerialist, who goes by the stage name Looffy, told CTV that it’s a traditional circus. “We call it trad circus and especially because we are under the big top… something like this is kind of keeping circus tradition alive and bringing a little bit of that old school magic to home for you,” he said. This is the circus’ second Canadian tour following one last year, and its first time stopping in Prince Albert. Owner and performer Geoffrey Berhault, who is originally from France, explained the different acts. “We have aerial act, we have a comedy clown, we have a contortionist. We have Paul… doing the Cyr Wheel is from Canada, and we have also the FMX bikes jumping at the end of the show.” Berhault said one of his favourite things about working as a circus performer is travelling to new places with his team. “We move town to town every week, so we always discover a new a new town, a new province, sometimes a new country, for Canada last year,” said Berhault. “We all live together, so it’s like a big family.” He said he’s excited to see how Prince Albert residents will react to the show. Performers have already been able to get out and see some of the local hotspots. Looffy made sure to check out Prince Albert’s Central Ave. downtown. “I love my coffee shops and there is coffee shops all over, so I’m sure they’ve seen me walking in and out getting my daily coffee or two,” he said. “I also love all the little art stores downtown. I’m an artist, so I love seeing independent art and local artists make the things.” About a dozen international performers began their performances on Thursday night and will stay in Prince Albert until Sunday, before heading off to stops in Lloydminster and Saskatoon.
