Heavy snow on the way to Montreal on Thursday

Waking up on Thursday, residents in Montreal and the surrounding area may well see a decent amount of white stuff, and the snow is forecast to continue to fall until the evening.

The rain on Wednesday is forecast to turn into snow shortly after midnight, with heavy snowfall expected at around 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the area from Sorel-Tracy to Ottawa, including Montreal, calling for between 10 and 15 centimetres of accumulation.

“Rain will turn to snow overnight as temperatures drop below the freezing point,” the warning reads. “Untreated surfaces could become icy and snowy. Snow will be heavy at times, which could have a significant impact on traffic during rush hour.”

Visibility will be low at times, the warning adds, and residents are asked to prepare.
