Habs defenceman Alexandre Carrier to miss two to four weeks with injury

Defenceman Alexandre Carrier has sustained an upper-body injury and, as a result, will be placed on the injury list for a period of two to four weeks, the Montreal Canadiens announced on Tuesday morning.

Carrier, 29, played for 19:05 in the Habs’ last match, which ended in a 3-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.

The Quebec native has scored seven goals and recorded 15 assists in 73 matches so far this season with the Canadiens.

He has 20 goals and 89 assists in 369 career games in the Bettman circuit with the Nashville Predators and the Canadiens.

Carrier, who is in his second season with Montreal, was selected in the fourth round, 115th overall, by the Predators in the 2015 NHL Draft.

On Monday, the Habs recalled defenceman Adam Engström from the Laval Rocket.

It is not yet known whether Engström will take Carrier’s place in Montreal’s starting line-up against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday evening.

This marks Engström’s second stint with the Canadiens this season.

The 22-year-old Swede has gone pointless in 11 games, posting a plus-3 rating.

In 45 games with the Rocket, he has tallied 10 goals and 34 points so far, accompanied by a plus-14 rating.
