Former Quebec boxer Alex Hilton has died at the age of 61

Former boxer Alex Hilton has died at the age of 61, his brother, Jimmy Hilton, announced on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

“Words cannot describe the shock and sadness we all feel following the loss of our beloved brother and son, Alex Stewart Hilton, a man of great kindness and rare sincerity. He passed away peacefully in his sleep today, aged 61. He was the best son, brother and friend anyone could ever have, and we will miss him terribly. I love you, brother,” wrote Jimmy.

During his boxing career, Alex Hilton quickly made his mark by winning the vacant Canadian middleweight title at the age of 18 in a fight against Ralph Hollett in December 1983.

He subsequently lost the title in January 1985, after failing to meet the deadline to organize a title defence.

Hilton had several run-ins with the law during his lifetime, particularly during the 1980s.
