Crews respond to fire at downtown Montreal skyscraper

Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at a skyscraper in downtown Montreal on Thursday evening.

The Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) said the fire is at Place Ville Marie, a 47-storey building near the intersection of Robert-Bourassa and René Lévesque boulevards.

A spokesperson said the fire started on the 43rd floor in the building’s ventilation system and was later brought under control.

No injuries were reported.

There is a large police and fire presence in the area, with more than 100 firefighters responding to the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

People are being asked to avoid the area.
