A Quebec lawmaker has been arrested for impaired driving.

François Tremblay, the CAQ MNA for Dubuc, was arrested Wednesday evening following a collision in Saguenay, Que., Noovo Info reported.

Saguenay police said they arrested a driver in his 50s, but did not release his identity.

Police spokesman Hervé Berghella told The Canadian Press that the driver became stuck in a snowbank, and later blew two breath samples at nearly twice the legal alcohol limit.

Berghella says the man was released on a promise to appear in court and his licence was suspended.

In a written statement issued Thursday to CTV News, the Chief Government Whip, François Jacques, said he was aware of the incident.

“This is a very serious situation. No options are being ruled out. That said, we will take the time to gather all the facts before taking any action,” the statement reads.

Tremblay has been the MNA for Dubuc in the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region since the 2018 provincial election. He also serves as the parliamentary assistant to the Minister responsible for Infrastructure, Benoit Charette.

Before becoming an MNA, he previously served as a city councillor in the City of Saguenay.
