The Montreal police (SPVM) arson squad is investigating after office space was set ablaze in the early morning hours on Saturday. Police say that a 911 call at 1:15 a.m. responding to a fire alarm prompted authorities to a commercial building on Somerled Avenue near Bessborough Avenue in the NDG neighbourhood. “When police arrived, the Montreal fire department was already bringing the fire under control,” said SPVM spokesperson Johany Charland. Police report that one or more suspects broke into the second floor and allegedly set fire to commercial offices and then fled the scene before authorities arrived. Incendiary materials were found on scene, and the SPVM’s arson squad investigators will investigate further. The building sustained significant damage. No one was injured. The investigation is ongoing.
