71-year-old Pointe Calumet man facing drug, firearms charges

A 71-year old man is facing several charges related to drug trafficking and possession of prohibited weapons.

Police carried out search warrant was issued for the home of Pointe Calumet resident Denis Mayer. Inside, they found more than 3,000 grams of marijuana, 140 total pills of OxyContin, Viagra and Cialis, 220 cartons of contraband cigarettes, several firearms and a large sum of money.

The investigation began after a member of the public tipped off police that Mayer was selling drugs and cigarettes from his home.

He appeared in court Friday and faces charges of drug trafficking and possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana as well as firearms-related charges.

Mayer’s home is near an elementary school, which police say could lead to a harsher sentence if he is convicted.
