Stabbed during a domestic dispute, a 25-year-old man is fighting for his life

A 25-year-old man is in critical condition in hospital after being seriously injured by a sharp object during a domestic dispute on Sunday in Montreal.

A 911 call at around 3 a.m. led emergency services to the scene of the incident in a residence on Jolicoeur Street, near Beaulieu Street, in the South West borough.

“According to initial reports, a domestic dispute escalated between the suspect and the victim, at which point the suspect allegedly injured the victim with a sharp object and then fled before the police arrived,” said Montreal police (SPVM) spokesperson Officer Caroline Chèvrefils.

Police located the suspect about two hours later.

“At around 5:15 a.m., they located and arrested the suspect not far from the scene of the armed assault. The suspect, a 26-year-old man, was taken to the investigation centre, where he will be interviewed by investigators in the coming hours,” said the SPVM spokesperson. “The scene has been secured for investigators and forensic technicians so that they can analyse the scene and try to understand the exact circumstances of this event,.”

The SPVM investigation is ongoing.
