Wind, tree take down hydro lines in west London

High winds ripped off a large tree branch Thursday morning in central London, knocking out power for a whole neighbourhood.

More than 200 customers are without power in west London after the wind took out some power lines and a tree took out some others.

According to London fire, the tree came down due to heavy winds and partial rot.

A transformer that was fed by Wilson Avenue also lost power causing lights at the intersection of Wharncliffe Road and Riverside Drive to go out. A constable with London Police directed traffic until power returned.

Traffic was closed on the southern portion of Wilson Avenue as well as on Riverside Drive between Wharncliffe Road and Ridout Street while emergency crews cleaned up debris and repaired the hydro lines.

Officials estimate that power will return to the majority of residents by 2 p.m.

Fire crews have cleared the scene but hydro crews are still there working to restore power.
