Two people evacuate safely as blaze engulfs rear of home

Two people have been displaced following a Tuesday morning house fire on Boulee Street. CTV's Sean Irvine reports.

A house fire caused significant damage Tuesday morning, and no injuries were reported, according to fire officials.

Two people were inside the home on Boullee Street when they noticed what they described as an electrical-type smell.

After investigating, they discovered a fire at the back of the house and immediately evacuated. Neighbours had already called 911 by the time the pair made it outside.

When fire crews arrived, they were met with heavy smoke and flames. Multiple units, including an aerial truck, were dispatched to the scene.

Early estimates place the damage at approximately $200,000.

Platoon Chief Gary Mossburger told CTV News the cause of the fire will take time to determine, but noted that investigators do not currently believe the incident to be suspicious.
