Three suspected drug overdoses in Grey Bruce this week

Grey Bruce Public Health was notified of three drug poisonings earlier this week in Owen Sound and Port Elgin.

The overdoses occurred on Nov. 3 and Nov. 4, and in two cases, the suspected substances were an unknown opioid and meth.

The third case was an unknown substance.

Following the overdoses, the health unit is sharing advice to those who use drugs.

• Avoid using alone. When using with someone else, avoid using at the same time.
• Call or text the National Overdose Response Service at 1-888-688-6677 or download and use the Brave App if you must use alone.
• Take extra caution if mixing substances. Mixing substances can increase the risk of harm and drug poisonings.
• Go slow. Always start with a low dose and increase slowly, especially if trying something new or restarting use.
• Use only new supplies and avoid sharing supplies. This reduces the risk of getting or passing on an infectious disease. Supplies are available at GBPH and community partners.
• Get overdose prevention training & carry a naloxone kit.
