The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) has revealed its new Cancer and Medical Care Clinic and Pharmacy at the Stratford General Hospital. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Friday. According to HPHA, the facility represents a significant step in meeting the needs of patients and having more advanced treatments in a more comfortable and accessible space. The clinic serves more than 3,500 patients every year for various procedures and treatments, like chemotherapy and supportive care for different kinds of cancers. “[The] event is an outstanding reminder of the important role the community plays in supporting our ability to provide the highest quality care,” said Andrew Williams, HPHA President and CEO. “We now have a world-class facility to complement the world-class care provided day-in, day-out to those in need, and I could not be more proud and appreciative of all those who helped make this a reality.” Through the space upgrades, the patient consultation and treatment spaces increased from 12 to 17, anew negative pressure room was added for high-risk patients, a specialized Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter room was built for the insertion of central lines for long-term intravenous medication administration and more than 18,000 square feet were renovated inside with new mechanical, electrical and security systems, as well as windows and roofing. “The investment in pharmacy facilities allows HPHA to adhere to current medication preparation standards for patient and staff safety,” said Ryan Itterman, director of diagnostics, regional pharmacy and chemotherapy. “We are proud of the new Cancer and Medical Care Clinic, which will support the growing needs of those we serve in a modern and comfortable setting for years to come.” The HPHA said the In Our Hands Capital Campaign helped fund the project, as $15 million of the needed $30 million was committed.
