Stormy stretch continues as rain and flurries mix into the regional forecast

There are a few weather warnings in place from Environment Canada, including rainfall warnings for midwestern Ontario and for the London region.

Some areas could get 20 to 40 mm of rainfall and upwards of 60 mm is possible for Grey Bruce and Huron in Perth.

“That’s all thanks to this big weather maker, widespread rainfall and embedded thunderstorm activities for the next six hours, really taking its time moving out,” said Reta Ismail.

“We have a series of low pressure systems, one will bring in mixed precipitation and a little bit of snowfall, the bulk of this system pushes out about 9 p.m. tonight, and behind it, a colder air mass settles in.”

As the winds gust over Lake Huron at about 40 to 60 kilometers per hour, we are expecting some flurries overnight tonight into Thursday morning.

“There will be a bit of a break from the activity around noon and We are going to see clouds increase, the chance of flurries return. And the next system we are tracking is Friday morning. It’s widespread snowfall to start,” said Ismail.

The Friday system will be moving in just in time for your morning commute — snow switching over to rainfall as the temperatures start to climb on Friday to a high of four heading into the weekend.

Flood warning

Water levels throughout much of the Lower Thames watershed had dropped after last week’s rainfall and snowmelt caused high water levels.

The forecasted rains are expected to create areas of ponding, standing water, and localized flooding around the watershed. Smaller watercourses in the region will rise again and some may spill their banks into adjacent low-lying areas.

While the Thames River had already peaked from last week’s event around Dutton, water levels had not yet peaked at Thamesville or Chatham.

The Thames River will continue to flood the low-lying areas adjacent to the river from Delaware down to Thamesville as water levels on the river rise again.
