Special weather statement issued for London region

Another round of strong winds is expected in London late Sunday into Tuesday with gusts of up to 90 km/h expected.

According to Environment Canada, a special weather statement has been issued for London due to strong wind gusts of between 70 to 90 km/h.

Easterly winds are expected to become southerly late Sunday afternoon or evening with gusts up to 70 km/h. Southwesterly winds Monday morning will becoming westerly Monday night with gusts of 70 to 90 km/h.

Environment Canada says the strongest wind gusts are expected along with the passage of a cold front come Monday morning.

The timing of the weather event is expected to last from late Sunday until Tuesday morning.

High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break, and local utility outages are possible.

Sunday night: Partly cloudy with 40 percent chance of showers this evening and after midnight. A few showers beginning after midnight. Risk of a thunderstorm overnight. Wind south 40 km/h gusting to 70. Temperature steady near 9.

Monday: A few rain showers ending in the morning then cloudy with 40 percent chance of rain showers late in the morning and early afternoon then 60 percent chance of flurries in the afternoon. Risk of a thunderstorm early in the morning. Wind southwest 50 km/h gusting to 80. Temperature falling to zero in the afternoon. UV index 3 or moderate.

Tuesday: Flurries or snow squalls. Local blowing snow. Windy. High minus 5.

Wednesday: Cloudy. High minus 1.

Thursday: Periods of rain or snow. High plus 5.

Friday: Cloudy. High 6.
