Highway closures as snow squalls continue Thursday

After a night of snowfall, flurries continue throughout the day on London.

A yellow snow squall warning remains in effect for the London region going into Thursday night.

The flurries have developed off Lake Huron and Huron County in particular will see a lot of snow throughout the day.

Travel may also be extremely hazardous and visibility may be suddenly reduced to near zero at times.

Middlesex County will see heavier snowfall, with snow accumulating up to five or six cm.

“So in and out of flurries today, depending on how these snow squalls set up,” said CTV News London meteorologist Julie Atchison.

Cold air will push in from across Lake Huron. “It’s going to be bitterly cold today,” said Atchison.

Snowfall is expected to ease by Friday, with a cold weekend on the horizon.

Road closures

All lanes of Highway 402 westbound were closed between Colonel Talbot road and Longwoods Road for a multi-vehicle crash involving transport trucks and passenger vehicles.

In an update late afternoon, police say the highway has since been reopened.

Friday: A mix of sun and cloud. Wind becoming west 20 km/h near noon. High minus 3. Wind chill minus 13 in the morning and minus 6 in the afternoon. UV index 1 or low.

Saturday: Cloudy with 40 percent chance of flurries. High minus 5.

Sunday: Cloudy with 60 percent chance of flurries. High minus 7.

Monday: Cloudy with 60 percent chance of snow. High minus 7.

Tuesday: Cloudy. High minus 3.
