Shoreline conditions statement issued for Lake Erie shoreline

The entire shoreline along Lake Erie in the Municipality of Bayham, Norfolk County and western Haldimand County is under a shoreline conditions statement for water safety.

The statement is issued by the Long Point Conservation Authority due to a risk of flooding, high water levels and strong winds along the shoreline.

A weather system bringing strong winds of 60 km/h and gusting up to 90 started Sunday morning and will continue into the evening.

Minor flooding, wave uprush and increased erosion may occur in western Haldimand County. Bayham and Norfolk County face a lower risk of flooding on Sunday afternoon.

Residents are asked to avoid areas along Lake Erie with strong waves and high water levels.

The statement will remain in effect until 8 a.m. on Dec. 1.
