Sarnia’s integrity commissioner has found Coun. Bill Dennis did not violate the city’s code of conduct over controversial social media posts about a newly installed Indigenous mural at city hall. Dennis made several comments online about the mural, including one post that said, “Put that in your pipes and smoke it.” In a report, the integrity commissioner described Dennis’ remarks as “political speech” that warranted a political response, but concluded they did not amount to a breach of the city’s code of conduct. The finding means no sanctions will be imposed against the councillor in relation to the posts.
