An arrest has been made in one of four vehicle break ins in St. Thomas over the weekend. According to police, a 32-year-old St. Thomas man is facing multiple charges following an investigation into the fraudulent use of stolen bank cards. St. Thomas police said officers were contacted Sunday after a wallet, bank cards, cash, a backpack and sporting equipment were stolen from a vehicle parked on Elizabeth Street. Investigators determined the stolen bank cards were later used to make several purchases at a business on Talbot Street. After reviewing surveillance footage, officers identified a suspect and later arrested him. Police said they recovered the stolen backpack, along with several other items believed to be stolen or obtained through criminal activity. The accused is charged with possession of property obtained by crime, theft under $5,000, unauthorized use of a credit card, disguise with intent and failure to comply with an undertaking. Meanwhile, St. Thomas police are investigating three other vehicle entries reported over the weekend. In one case, four pairs of sunglasses were reported stolen from a vehicle on Rice Road after the passenger door was found ajar. Police believe the theft occurred Sept. 14. In a separate incident, about $300 worth of personal property was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a Talbot Street parking lot. Officers observed pry marks on the passenger-side door. Police are also investigating the theft of a wallet containing identification and bank cards, prescription medication and cigarettes from a vehicle parked on Ross Street. Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact St. Thomas police.
