Double digit temperatures in store going into the Easter long weekend

While there will be rain over the holiday weekend there is also going to be double digit temperatures. CTV's Julie Atchison breaks down the forecast.

It’s not just chocolate that the Easter bunny has in store this holiday weekend, but also temperatures soaring into the high teens to mid twenties.

“We’ve had some rainfall in the region today in advance of a warm front that will continue to drive northward as we head through the afternoon and evening,” said CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison.

Atchison says heavy rainfall has moved through parts of Bruce County and Grey County, with freezing rain in the Bruce Peninsula and a freezing rain warning in effect. She says one to two millimeters of accretion are expected throughout the Bruce Peninsula.

In London, there will be a risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon with sustained winds of 20 km/h, and gusts of up to 40 km/h.

Thursday’s high will peak at 8 C, but Atchison says an approaching warm front will see that number soar going into the Easter long weekend and Good Friday.

“This warm front will continue to push northward, putting us in the warm sector overnight with a risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms,” she said.

Overnight Thursday into Friday, temperatures will reach 15 C with a risk of thunderstorms and showers beginning around midnight, and fog patches expected to dissipate around midnight. Winds will remain steady, with gusts of up to 40 km/h.

Cloudy skies will linger on Good Friday with a 40 per cent chance of rain, but the temperature will soar into the double digits, peaking at 22 C, but feeling like 27 with the humidex. Winds will increase in the morning, with gusts of 60 km/h expected.

The temperature drops back down overnight Friday with a low of 6 C, but Atchison says it will climb right back up for a daytime high of 17 C, and a 70 per cent chance of showers. on Saturday.

Temperatures will cool down towards the end of the Easter long weekend and the start of the workweek, with single digit highs expected during the day and temperatures several degrees below zero at night.
