Remains identified, homicide listed as cause of death

OPP have released the identity of human remains found in a wooded area near Highway 6 in Haldimand County.

Around 6 p.m. on Oct. 16, investigators found the remains west of Caledonia, south of Sterling Street.

After a post mortem exam, police said the remains were identified as Robert Sykes, 49, of Simcoe and the cause of death has been listed as homicide.

On Oct. 12, police said a 45-year-old man was charged with second degree murder in relation to the death of Barbara Morgan, 71, who was found in a home on Head Street in Simcoe on Oct. 5.

On Oct. 10, police said there was concern for a potential second victim as part of the investigation and asked the public for information regarding the whereabouts of Robert Sykes, 49, who was last seen on head Street on Oct. 4.
