Rare beetles spotted in London park, public urged not to touch

If you’re heading out to enjoy the fall weather in London this week, keep an eye out for some unexpected visitors.

According to city officials, some shiny black beetles have been spotted in Arthur Ford Park — they’re believed to be a type of blister beetle.

While relatively rare, the city said these beetles can release a toxin that causes skin irritation if touched.

Officials are advising the public not to handle them and to keep pets away, as the beetles are also toxic if consumed.

These insects aren’t fans of the cold, so they’re expected to disappear as temperatures continue to drop.

Temperatures in London this week will range between seven and 13 degrees Celsius.

If you do happen to spot one of the beetles, the city asks that you report it through the Service London online reporting portal.
