Porter Airlines is expanding its presence at London International Airport, announcing five new year-round domestic destinations just weeks after unveiling plans for winter service to sun destinations. Beginning in spring 2027, Porter says it will launch service from London, Ont., to Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver. The announcement was made Tuesday at London International Airport, where officials unveiled one of the Porter aircraft that will serve the growing network. Scott McFadzean, CEO of London International Airport, called the expansion a major development for the region. “It’s been a long time coming,” McFadzean said. “Wanting to attract Porter to our community.” The airport previously announced in August that Porter would begin offering winter flights from London to sun destinations in Florida, Mexico and Jamaica. McFadzean said the addition of year-round domestic service will provide travellers with more options while also helping bring visitors into the London region. “It’s a game changer for our market,” he said. London Mayor Josh Morgan said the new routes could also help boost tourism by making the city more accessible to travellers from across Canada. “The great thing is planes go both directions,” Morgan said. He said London generated more than $1.1 billion in tourism activity last year, adding that the new flights will give visitors more convenient options for reaching the city. Porter CEO Kevin Jackson said the airline sees significant potential in the London market. “We intend to build this market,” Jackson said, noting that about 2.5 million people live within a short drive of London International Airport. “Bringing that level of capacity, that number of destinations is really an opportunity for us to build this market.” Porter says passengers on its London routes will fly on aircraft without middle seats. The airline also says complimentary beer and wine, along with premium snacks, will be available onboard. The expansion comes as London International Airport continues to add destinations and increase its air service options for travellers in the region.
