Parts of northern Manitoba could be in for a snowy Thanksgiving weekend. A special weather statement from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Friday morning said a storm system moving through the north this weekend will bring rain that could turn into snow starting Saturday and Sunday as cold air slumps into the region. They said the storm system will take place with temperatures just a couple of degrees above freezing. “The most likely outcome will be 20 to 40 mm of rain with a few centimetres of snow possible as the precipitation weakens and tapers off on Sunday,” ECCC wrote in a statement. “Worst case scenario, if temperatures end up slightly colder, then 10 to 25 centimetres of heavy wet snow could fall in some areas.” ECCC said communities in the path for precipitation include Pukatawagan, Nelson House, Thompson, Gillam and Oxford House. Residents in those areas are asked to watch for updated forecasts and potential weather alerts during the weekend.
