Police say Sarnia man charged after girl groped near high school

A Sarnia man is being held in custody as part of a sexual assault investigation where a young girl was groped, according to police.

On Sept. 15, police said they got complaints about a man hanging around near a north end high school, but wasn’t on the property.

Police said the name of the school is being withheld to help protect the identity of the victim.

“Although this investigation has only involved a single school, police do not want to eliminate the possibility of other schools that may have been involved,” read a statement from police.

The male reportedly started approaching young girls and talking to them about drugs and alcohol, and asking them to pose for pictures.

Police say the boldness grew and the man started to follow girls as they left school property and on one occasion, intentionally groped one of the female students.

The student made a complaint through the school and police were contacted.

Jagjit Singh, 51, was arrested and charged with sexual interference and sexual assault. He was remanded into custody after a bail hearing.
