Police called to Strathroy residence for reported shooting in ‘swatting’ incident

The Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service (SCPS) say that they responded to a reported shooting in a Strathroy residence on Tuesday that turned out to be a hoax.

Commonly referred to as ‘swatting,’ police say that the call was issued by someone with the hopes of drawing a large police presence to the home.

SCPS has confirmed that there were no injuries or charges laid as a result of the incident, and preliminary investigations have shown that the call originated from within the United States.

Police say that swatting can result in charges of public mischief as well as other potential criminal charges.
