One person in critical condition, another arrested after overnight stabbing in downtown London

Dozens of other markers covered the road and caution tape roped off a parking lot behind houses on St. George Street after an overnight stabbing.

Police say one person was stabbed multiple times around 12:45 a.m. and was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

Bystanders provided first aid and officers arrived to help before the victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say witnesses provided a description of the suspect and were able to quickly locate and arrest him nearby.

As a result of the investigation, Calvin Daley, 20, of London, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault.

Neighbours told CTV News they were awaken by the sirens and heavy police presence.

“I just hope nobody’s hurt because, these students, they deserve a good life,” said Lakshmi Sharma, who lives right across the street.

She moved to London from the GTA.

“I lived in Toronto in many places. This is very similar now.”

She is referring to the third such incident in a few weeks. There was a shooting just steps away in the parking lot on Mill Street and another shooting near Talbot St. and Piccadilly.

“I’m in a student area and it’s not bad, but this needs to stop,” says Sharma.

While the victim remains in hospital, police are asking anyone with information to call them or Crime Stoppers.
