No injuries sustained in fire at Owen Sound rooming house

No injuries have been reported following a fire on 2nd Avenue East in Owen Sound.

Around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, emergency services were called to a fire on the third floor of a rooming house. Occupants were evacuating as firefighters arrived.

Fire officials described heavy smoke conditions. They were quickly able to identify a mattress fire. Further investigation revealed smoking materials caused the fire.

A working smoke alarm alerted the resident inside, who got out without injury. Fire officials remind of the importance of a working smoke alarm.
