‘More than 200 calls for service’: storm cleanup continues in London

London Hydro says the majority of customers who were affected by yesterday’s storm are waking up to having their power back.

Yesterday, London experienced high winds, rain, and hail during a significant storm, and many trees across the city were severely damaged.

City crews were out through the evening responding to service requests and clearing branches from roads, sidewalks, and buildings.

According to the city, the cleanup will resume today and is expected to continue through the week to clear fallen branches along roads and in parks.

All roads are expected to be fully opened by 10 a.m., however, parks will take longer, and residents may encounter closed sections of trails for a few days while these areas are being addressed.

So far, more than 200 service requests about tree issues have been received but this number does not reflect the total trees damaged, which is expected to be larger.

Thames Valley Golf Course is temporarily closed today while we clean up. Fanshawe Golf Course remains open.

The ongoing outage areas include Byron, Westmount, Glanworth, River Bend, Central London, Longwoods, Hamilton Road, South London, Argyle, Southcrest, and Oakridge.

Trafalgar Public School and Westmount Public School are closed today because of the ongoing power outage.

On-site EarlyON Centres and Child Care Centres are closed. Before/After School Programs are also closed.

All other schools, on-site EarlyON Centres and Child Care Centres and Before/After School Programs remain open.

At its peak, about 12,500 customers didn’t have power.
