Midwestern Ontario digging out following ‘never-ending’ snowstorm

2026 began much the same way 2025 ended, with residents of midwestern Ontario digging out from more snow. Scott Miller reports.

A seemingly never-ending snowstorm in midwestern Ontario had people across the region digging out again on Friday.

Most of the snow fell on New Year’s Eve, where more than 50 centimetres of snow fell on Wingham and the surrounding area.

Some communities in Grey-Bruce were even harder hit.

While most roads have re-opened in midwestern Ontario, Bruce Road 7 from Ripley to Hwy. 9 remains closed.

Police responded to hundreds of ditched vehicles and collisions due to the weather.

Persistent snow squalls will add another 15-30 centimetres of snow to some parts of midwestern Ontario over the weekend.
