‘May they rest in peace’: Local MPP remembers 3 teens killed in Hanover, Ont. crash in address to provincial parliament

MPP Paul Vickers gave an emotional address at Queens Park in relation to a crash that killed three teens and left another in hospital last week.

It was an emotional tribute at Queen’s Park Thursday morning for the teens killed in a crash near Hanover, Ont. last week as Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Paul Vickers rose to address provincial parliament.

“I rise today to pay tribute to the victims who tragedy in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound,” he said.

Vickers fought back tears as he honoured the two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old who died in the single vehicle rollover crash on Nov 11.

He also offered support for a fourth teen who remains in hospital.

All four attended John Diefenbaker Senior School in Hanover.

“I want to rise to recognize Damon Davis an aspiring auto mechanic and volunteer for the Saint Matthew’s Lutheran Church. To recognize Haley Keffer, the spunky 16-year-old daughter of Stacy and Sarah. To recognize Tyson Varley, a big brother who loved anything with an engine. And I wish Landon Preiss-Hillier the best in his road to recovery,” Vickers said.

“These teens were beloved community members and cherished by their families. Their stories captivated the hearts of Grey and Bruce counties. Madam Speaker, my heart goes out to the Hanover community as they mourn Damon, Haley, Tyson. May their memory be a blessing and may they rest in peace.”
