London man arrested following assault in downtown core

A London Ont. man has been arrested after London police responded to a robbery call Tuesday night in the city’s downtown core.

According to police, at approximately 7 p.m. a man approached a woman unknown to him near Richmond and King streets and attempted to take her cellphone.

Police say he allegedly assaulted the woman before stealing her cellphone and fleeing the area on foot.

He was later located and arrested nearby.

The victim sustained minor physical injuries and required medical attention by paramedics at the scene of the robbery.

As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old London man has been charged with one count of robbery from a person with violence.

Police say he remains in custody and appeared in London court on Wednesday.
