Provincial authorities have announced an inquest into a man’s death in Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre (EMDC) custody. Jamie Briggs, 44, was from Norwich. He died while he was an inmate at EMDC on Nov. 16, 2022. Officials say a date and location for the inquest will be determined at a later date. Provincial law requires an inquest when someone dies in an Ontario jail.
