High pressure brings above-seasonal warmth to start week in southwestern Ontario

After a wet and windy weekend, sunshine is returning to southwestern Ontario to start the work week, bringing temperatures above seasonal norms, says Reta Ismail.

Cloud lingered early Monday morning but cleared as the day progressed, setting the stage for mainly sunny skies and a high near 25 C across the region, Ismail said.

An area of high pressure is driving the improved conditions and is expected to keep unsettled weather at bay over the next few days.

“As this system holds in place, it’s blocking moisture from moving north,” Ismail said, noting the setup is linked to a warm front situated south of the border.

The result will be a steady warming trend, with temperatures climbing above seasonal averages for London and surrounding areas. Tuesday is expected to be the warmest day of the stretch, with a forecast high of 28 C under mostly sunny skies and a light southwest breeze.

Rain chances remain limited in the short term. The next opportunity for precipitation is early Wednesday morning, when a brief, light shower is possible, though the likelihood remains low, according to Ismail.

Beyond that, conditions are expected to stay largely sunny and calm through midweek, with temperatures gradually easing closer to seasonal levels heading into the weekend.

Looking ahead, Ismail said the broader pattern suggests more stable conditions as the calendar turns to June next week.

“By early June, we’re expecting things to settle into a more consistent seasonal pattern,” she said.
