Freezing drizzle, flurries possible Friday night before weekend warm up

There will be some more winter weather Friday night into Saturday before a warm up for your Family Day weekend. Gary Archibald explains.

Freezing drizzle and flurries are possible in the Forest City Friday night into Saturday, but a weekend warm up is in store for the Family Day weekend.

According to CTV News Windsor Meteorologist Gary Archibald, a “mixed bag” of weather is expected over the next 24 hours.

Cloudiness will increase Friday, while a weather system works its way across northern parts of Lake Huron and Manitoulin Island.

“This system will continue to bring blowing snow and drifting snow across the region,” he said.

Grey Bruce, including Georgian Bay, Wiarton, Owen Sound, Kincardine, Southampton, and areas along the eastern shores of Lake Huron will see gusty winds of between 50-70 km/h with temperatures cold enough for the snow to stay on the ground and reduced visibility.

Archibald says the system will make its way through the area during the afternoon and into the evening.

In London, a few flurries will end near midnight with cloudy skies. There is a risk of freezing drizzle in the evening and overnight, with fog patches developing after midnight. The overnight low will dip down to –4 C, feeling like –8 with the wind chill.

Archibald says colder temperatures, and a possible a light dusting of flurries and freezing drizzle in London could lead to accumulation of snow and ice on the ground.

“Drive safely, travel safely,” he said.

Better weather news arrives over the weekend, with partially sunny skies expected Saturday into Monday, and daytime highs ranging from 3 C to 6 C.

“We are warming up and we’ve gotten a taste of this trend over southern Ontario,” Archibald said. “The weekend’s not looking too bad at all.”

Tuesday: Cloudy. High plus 5.

Wednesday: Periods of rain. High plus 4.
